Termites in Virginia
Termites are a common pest problem year-round here in Virginia. Our seasonal climate draws abundant termite activity in the warmer months of the year. There are just two termites that are most common in our area. Unfortunately, they are two of the most destructive types of termites. Here’s what to know:
- Eastern Subterranean Termites. These termites are the most common in North America, and also cost property owners the most money from the damage they cause. They are typically smaller than drywood termites and need contact with the soil to survive. A major sign of these termites is noticing mud tubes.
- Formosan Termites. These aggressive termites can be a real pain for property owners. A single colony may contain several million termites in the worst cases. They are known to not be picky when feeding and can quickly chew their way through all types of wood. Formosan termites can expand quickly with underground tunnels.
