Know the Difference

Flying ants and termites are often mistaken for each other. While similar in size, they have several notable differences:

 Ant Versus Termite
Flying Ant
  1. Pinched-waist
  2. Long legs
  3. Elbowed antennae
  4. Two pairs of wings, rear wings smaller than the front
  5. Wings have few well-defined veins
Swarming Termite
  1. Broad waist
  2. Short legs
  3. Straight antennae
  4. Two pairs of wings the same size and shape
  5. More and finer veins in wings create a lace-like appearance
